Vespa BK x The Style Saetta – Springtime with the Vespa Primavera: Take #1

My second collaboration with Vespa Brooklyn brought me to the streets of Dumbo, Brooklyn – one of the most scenic and epically “New York” places I’ve been to in the city.

As we rolled up to the docks, I was stunned by how perfectly my Vespa Primavera (in Rosso Red of course) complemented the backdrop.  I felt like I was on a movie set.  The Brooklyn Bridge peaking out between the antique buildings and winding cobblestone streets showcased my bike in the most picturesque sense.

That day two of my biggest inspirations came together so effortlessly – Iconic Italian style (the Vespa) and an era in American history when Italian immigrants came to this country in the 1930’s.  It left me feeling so motivated – I swear I was channeling their hopes and dreams as I zipped through those winding cobblestone streets.

Cannes Can

I am absolutely obsessed with this Grecian Gucci Premiere gown worn by Blake Lively for the

2014 Cannes Film Festival.  The cut, the color, the simplicity… it is perfect.

Makeup Tutorial: The Friendly Vamp

One lovely perk working in the fashion industry is the occasional employee incentive.  This time the focus was a virtually indestructible business: Cosmetics.  Investing in great cosmetics and skin care can really make a difference in your look.  I recommend sticking to a few of your favorite brand names when sprucing up your collection – it simplifies the application process as same vendor products tend to work best with one another.

Below is my very first makeup tutorial/collection of strange faced selfies featuring mostly Bobbi Brown cosmetics and a few other great names sprinkled in there too.

friendly vamp

1.  Start with a freshly washed face:  Right now I’m using Clinque Rinse Off Foaming Cleaner.

2.  Moisturize:  Here I’m using Bobbi Brown Hydrating Face Cream.  Best part – this is also a primer!

3.  Prep eyes: Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream is also a primer/eye cream.  I like to put all over the eye area.

4.  Prep face with my newest obsession: Bobbi Brown BB Cream w/ SPF 35 in Light.  Squirt a pea size amount onto the Full Coverage Brush.  Swirl product into skin all over the face including eye area.  I love how this tinted BB Cream evens out my skin tone and provides coverage without making me look like a porcelain doll.  The product is lightweight too.  Add Bobbi Brown Illuminating Eye Brightener in Bisque to brighten inner corners of the eye.

5.  Apply a Bronzer:  Here I’m using Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronzing Powder in Aruba.  I like to put bronzer in concave portions of my face:  Under cheek bones, temples, under jaw line.  I also like to brush bronzer on my t-zone mimicking a natural tan.

6.  Apply Blush to apples of cheeks.  Here I’m using a Creme de Blush in Petale de Rose from YSL.  I put the product on my ring fingers and dab onto the apples of my cheeks.

7.  Applying Eyeshadow:  Using the Bobbi Brown Eye Blender Brush and Nude Nectar Eyeshadow Palate, prep the eyes by brushing on the Pale Cream (a nude color) all over lids, then fill in crease with Soft Buff.

8.  Create Dimension:  Using a tiny liner brush, line the outer base of the lashes with Rich Caviar (also from palate mentioned above).  Then start to move the brush up into the crease of the eye creating a dark spot in the corner of the eye into the crease.

9.  Fine Line:  Wet your liner brush and dip into Rich Caviar again to really line the lashes and create a small  wing.  Apply Bobbi Brown Smoke Eye Mascara in Black for super full (almost fake looking) lashes.Slide4

10.  Tame Brows:  Brush out brows using Cover Girl Clear Mascara (also great for taming flyaways!).

11.  Prep Lips:  Prep lips for lipstick application by brushing on remaining BB Cream.  This will keep the lipstick on longer and keep it in place.

12.  Apply Lipstick:  Bobbi Brown Black Plum is  dark but sheer lipstick.  I’m obsessed with this for two reasons:  It gives you a dark lip while feeling like Chapstick.

Marbled Marvel

This weekend I went to my cousin’s wedding.  The gorgeous couple was complimented by an equally beautiful day.

Have a Heart: Stuffed Artichokes

Last weekend my mother-in-law made one of my favorite dishes, stuffed artichokes.  Besides the act of stuffing, this recipe is relatively easy.  Best part – you can do the prep, freeze and serve later.  Impress your guests and follow the steps below.

Pack of 9 artichokes  –  1 Egg  –  1/2 cup Grated Romano Cheese  –  Parsley  –

Garlic  – Italian Bread  – Olive Oil  –  Potatoes

1.  Start with a pack of nine artichokes.

2.  Prepare artichokes – Cut off top of artichoke, stem and peel outer layers to reveal the tender heart.

3.  Run artichoke under water to open up heart and prepare for stuffing.

4.  Create stuffing:  Mix egg, cheese, and torn Italian bread (about two big slices).  Mash until consistency is like a paste.

5.  Stuff artichokes – fill each leaf (as best you can) with mixture.

6.  Put artichokes into a saucepan with cut up potatoes.

7.  Fill saucepan with water, 1/3 cup of olive oil, cut garlic, salt and pepper to taste.

8.  As artichokes cook, they will absorb the water.  Make sure to fill water once absorbed until cooked.  Artichokes are cooked when a fork can easily go through.

9.  Enjoy!

Black Cat, Cross My Path

I have always wondered where the black cat’s bad rep came from and the more I hang out with Mimi and Sister (my good friend Sarah’s friendly black kitties) the more I write off these superstitions as nothing but an old wives tale.

Mimi and Sister compliment Sarah’s interior decorating to a tee.  As always, I’m captivated by their visual harmony with Sarah’s light blue, black, white and natural wood color story.  A neutral graphic rug in sky blue and white serves as a perfect back drop to the kitties’ silky black fur. Green piercing eyes add that small interesting detail to this pleasing color blocking technique.

Below I’ve created a transitional Spring outfit perfect for work or a dinner date in the same color story inspired by Sarah’s interiors and her kitties… complete with small bright green detail.
